1st Semester Midterm (Sept. 19 and 20)

PART I

Make sure your Portfolio is rock solid--add all films that you worked on (get links from directors for films that you worked on) explain -- mistakes and successes what you learned on each film.

ALL MOVIE REVIEWS IN CORRECT UNITS (Make sure that all films are in the correct units.  The portfolio should be easy for me to use.  If I have to search, your grade will be affected)

Each Unit should be correctly labeled.

"About Me"

"Plushie"

"Interview"
"News"

"Midterm"

Create a unit titled: "Midterm"--this is where I will be looking for all your midterm answers.

Midterm is Due on Friday at the end of the school day -- you will have time in class to work.

Clean computer desktop----put things that you need in your folder with your name on desktop.

Create a unit titled: "Midterm"--answer the following questions. For EACH question be specific by writing examples of your experiences. No generalizations! :

(Copy and paste the midterm questions into your Midterm Unit)

Embed your "cutting on action" film.  Write a paragraph explain the importance of cutting on action.

What did you do in class and outside of class time to help the ITVFest (be specific) Short answer

What have you noticed about television, commercials or motion pictures since you started this class? (Paragraph)

PART II
In 2010 there was a film contest  called Parallel Lines in which they asked people to create a three-minute short film using only six lines of dialogue:
“What is that?”
“It’s a unicorn”
“Never seen one up close before”
“Beautiful”
“Get away, get away”
“I’m sorry”
After more than 600 entries were submitted, director Ridley Scott selected the film below as the winner.

Before you watch the film, imagine how you would approach this film using the dialog that is written above. What would your plot be?

Write down the answer to the question: How would you have approached the film?

Now watch the film.  Watch it a second time.

Write a thoughtful essay using the following prompts (Make sure this piece is well-developed and use the ideas and terms we have been using all year):

Tell me about the style, lighting, sound, camera angles, acting and decisions that the filmmakers made.

Be explicit in your answers and relate it to things that you have learned in class this semester.

Use Screen shots from the film to illustrate the scenes that you are writing about. Approx. 500 words.

THE PORCELAIN UNICORN

PART III DO NOT ANSWER

I will never grade on the quality of the final films but on how well you apply yourself in this class. Using the Effort Grade Descriptors below explain where you stand in the effort you have given this class the first marking period. (one paragraph is fine)

Remember that an "A" would be someone who is ALWAYS on task. When the project is done this student is learning a new technique, working on the portfolio, writing a script, helping others out, watching movie clips or clips that explain new ideas. An "A" student is ALWAYS on time and if he or she is going to miss a class they will email me or the group that they are filming with. Are you someone who is showing leadership, are you helping out other groups, are you taking advantage of every minute you have in this class? What would the rest of the class say about your behavior?
